This is when Bernard brings Linda and John back to London. This changes the viewpoint we have on Bernard because he starts to become famous. In this Society everyone is pretty much designated to their own specific group. Which makes everyone equal. We start to see that Lenina is getting affection for John, which is really ironic because the society they built doesn't want people to have a true affection for one specific other person and she is doing exactly the opposite.
For the first time in this novel we see an example of someone showing modesty when Bernard reacted to Lenina when she basically says she wants to have sexual relations with him. In this society there wouldn't have been anything wrong with that so this reveals the realization that there are flaws in the society. When Helmholtz Watson is introduced he fits in so well to this society that it makes him stand out. By seeing two characters starting to figure out the society this foreshadows that there could be issues in the future.
In this society it's okay for people to have more than one partner and it's encouraged for young children to have multiple partners. This completely goes against the morals that most of our society today has. The idea of having individuality is strongly looked down upon in this book. I find it to be really disappointing that nobody has respect for others nor do they for themselves and the only thing that takes care of there problems is sex and drugs.
In this chapter, Mr. Foster and his students enter the Infant Nurseries which exposes them to the things the DHC does to the infants. The infants would be placed on the floor with flowers and books in front of them and the babies would be shocked in order to teach them that these things were bad. After an example of a Polish Boy repeating a radio broadcast after hearing it in his sleep, the DHC took up this technique in teaching the incoming infants by playing things to them in there sleep. This allowed the DHC to control these people. I feel that this is a horrible way to teach an infant something because they need the human interactions and to be able to decide the things that they enjoy in life without being forced to like or dislike something.
Throughout reading chapter one of A Brand New World, I was really confused about the setting of this book. The DHC manufactures humans which seems very unrealistic to have humans created in a lab. It removes all the factors that come about in the pregnancy process, therefore, increasing our population very rapidly. It appears that the children mature much faster than they do in the world we live in today.
